Michaelis Elected Chair of SIG-LS

The American Education Research Association (AERA) has released the results of the Special Interest Group (SIG) elections, and UIC assistant professor of learning sciences and computer sciences Joseph Michaelis was elected as Chair of the Learning Sciences SIG (SIG-LS) for 2022-2023. The announcement came as a pdf through the AERA website.

“I’m honored to be elected as the SIG-LS chair and excited to give back to the AERA community that has given me so much,” said Michaelis. “As chair, I hope to expand the impact of our members outside of the SIG by sponsoring joint sessions with other AERA SIGs and divisions, and reviving the SIG-LS social media accounts to stay connected and promote sessions, publications, and awards from SIG-LS members.”

Michaelis’ research focuses on designing and assessing educational technologies by utilizing human-centered methods and interaction modeling, and on interest, motivation and social-cultural learning perspectives in the learning sciences.
